Cross the Rock Relay and Wisconsin High School Cycling league race #1

First Cyclocross race of the season! The kick off was the cross the rock relay. The course was short, fun and technical. I raced the pro1/2/3 with our friend David Bloget and we won that. Later I raced the coed race with my sister and won that.

Sunday was the first Wisconsin High School Cycling League mountain bike race. I was racing JV which was 16 miles. Unfortunately the line up was random so I ended up fourth row. We took off and by the top of the start hill it was just Andy, Sam, one other kid and me. I led into the single track and for most of the first lap but I got stuck behind people at the end and Andy got a few seconds on me. I chased hard and kept him just within sight but all of a sudden in the middle of the second lap I hit a rock and endoed hard my garmin fell off along with my water bottle but I told a course martial and thankfully they found them. I finished the last lap and a half and held second even though I was a little shaken up but it was a great race and it was awesome to see so many people to come out and support high school cycling!

WORS #8 Scarlet Knight Scramble

Finally another mountain bike race! Its been almost a month since the last WORS race and this is one of the best courses! I had played 15 hours of soccer this week plus cycling and had a soccer tournament the day before so I was pretty tired. But I was pumped to be racing for my new team (more news coming soon) and this was my last race as a cat 2 and I had to make it count so I could sow up the series win and upgrade to a cat 1. I warmed up but my legs were still pretty trashed. I got my call up and we took off, I was second going up the first climb but I jumped ahead right before the single track. Kyle stayed with me through the first single track section and down the flats but once we got into the more technical single track I made up some time. I completed the first lap with a 20 second gap. Going into the sandy single track right after the start I figured out it wasn't as loose as I thought so I made up even more time on second place. I went as hard as I could on the flats and climbs and ripped up the single track which was much faster and more fun with out having to navigate traffic. I just about killed myself bombing the downhill rock gardens but it was worth it to make up the time and it was really fun! I won my age group and ended up 2nd overall out of 130+ riders. It was a good last race as a cat 2 and secured my series win so now it's time for a few more mountain bikes and while lot of cyclocross!
